Navy Shoes With A Black Dress
As mother of the bride, I really thought I would be nervous and anxious the day
of the wedding. Everything went very smoothly. All day long, everything just
fell right into place. The chairs arrived and were set up, the florist arrived
and set up, all the members of the wedding party arrived on time, the
photographer arrived and began taking all of the pictures that didn't include
the bride & groom together, the DJ arrived and set up, the lodge catered the
food and helped set up the reception area. All we had to worry about the day of
the wedding was getting the bridal party's hair done and get dressed. I was
thinking, “this is great” and wondering why people got so anxious planning
weddings. I decided we must have planned well for everything to be running so
smoothly.
Well, about an
hour before the wedding it was time for the pictures of the bride with her
parents. I ran to get dressed, as we were all staying at the lodge. I put on all
of my clothes and went to get my shoes. To my utter disbelief I had brought my
brand new navy shoes and my dress was black and white! Then I panicked! My
husband had several solutions which I will share with you. Keep in mind he is
not very fashion conscious but was trying his best to calm me down! His first
idea was for me to WEAR navy shoes with a black dress. My answer was “NO WAY!!”
He just couldn’t see why and thought no one would notice. Little does he know! I
informed him I would go barefoot before I wore navy shoes with and black dress.
His next solution was to take my brand new navy shoes that I had never worn and
SPRAY PAINT THEM BLACK!!!! He just happened to have some black spray paint in
his truck. I informed him there was no way I would let him spray my new shoes.
All this was going on and time was ticking. Going shopping was out of the
question as the lodge is about 45 minutes from the nearest town. I told him to
find my mom and tell her what was going on. I knew she would have a solution
that I could live with. So off he goes and he’s gone and he’s gone. By this
time, I’m frantic. Then someone is at the door. My mom walks in with a pair of
black sandals. Her friend was wearing them but had another pair of black shoes
in her car. They were my size, in style and BLACK! Crisis diverted! The
situation was under control and I made it down in time for the
pictures.
I look back now and get hysterical thinking of the sequence of
events. I could just imagine my 6’4” husband out in the parking lot of the lodge
with my navy shoes applying coats of black spray paint.
